Canoe/Kayak Equipment – Reminder
Throughout the season, you’ll need to go to the Community Center to receive the paddles, PFDs and to sign the waiver. If you’re kayaking from the Marina, please continue to go to the Marina for all your necessary equipment and waivers – equipment for the Marina will not be given out at the Community Center.
Pelican Landing Intermediate Bridge Classes
Pelican Landing in Bonita Springs offers intermediate bridge classes, which will run Thursdays from January 8th to February 26th at 2:00-4:30 PM. The intermediate bridge class will cover the following topics: Preemptive Opening Bids; Overcalls and Answering Overcalls; Takeout Doubles and Answering Takeout Doubles; and A Competitive Auction (when both pairs are bidding). The course is $250.00 plus book cost ($12.00), if you don’t already own one. Please make checks payable to Mary Ann Geppert. Deadline is January 2nd.
Pelican Landing Casual Friday Sail
Pelican Landing Bonita Springs will start their “Casual Friday Sail” beginning January 9th with Dave Gilmore and Geoff Withrington. Times will be posted on the calendar on the Sailing Center Webpage. Also, beginning that week on January 10th will be the “Saturday Sail to The Island”. Pelican Landing staff is looking for experienced sailors who would like to said to the Island and share a ride with the non-sailing residents (weather and conditions permitting). Pelican Landing Tennis-Pickle ball Social
Pelican Landing Bonita Springs will be hosting a Tennis-Pickle Ball Social Saturday, January 10th at Noon. Players will play a minimum of two 30-minute rounds with a playoff for the top players. Play is limited to the first 48 players who register. Pairing will be made prior to the event by the event coordinators. The final match will be an exhibition by our Tennis Staff against two Pickle Ball players. Immediately after the exhibition, there will be an awards ceremony and a social time in the community patio area. Lunch will be catered by Panera Bread and will be available before or between matches. Play and lunch is $17.50. If you don’t want to play, join us for lunch and cheer on your favorite players. Lunch only is $10.00 per person. The proceeds from this event will support the Tennis Center’s 20th anniversary celebrations including a community dinner-dance, which will be held at Pelican’s Nest on March 3rd.
Pelican Landing Cocktails & Canvas
Pelican Landing Bonita Springs will be offering Cocktail & Canvas Classes during the months of January, February and March. Pelican Landing resident Renata Vigoda will be teaching two classes. The first two are Tuesday, January 13th or January 20th at 1:00-4:00 PM. In these workshops, you will complete a painting in just one session then go home with you own creation. Renata will guide you each step of the way, and you’ll learn all about painting in the process. Snacks and special cocktails will be featured at each session to keep your creative juices flowing! All materials will be provided to you upon arrival – canvas, paint, brushes aprons, and inspiration. These are duplicate classes with the same image being painted at each one – this is being done to allow more people to attend the class. Cost is $30.00. Deadline to signup is January 3rd or January 10th.
Pelican Landing Intermediate Mah Jongg
Pelican Landing Bonita Springs is offering intermediate Mah Jongg classes. The classes are Thursdays, January 15th – February 5th at 10:00 AM – Noon. The cost is $60.00 for four two-hour classes. Learn strategy, how to change hands, and how to prevent your opponents from making Mah Jongg. It’s also the perfect class for brushing up on your game, if you haven’t played in awhile. Please make checks payable to Doris Loigman. Deadline to sign-up is January 8th.
Pelican Landing Travel Club Meeting: Backstage at RSW
On January 21st at 9:00 AM – 12:00 Noon you can choose to visit the new Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Station at Southwest Florida International Airport to get a comprehensive look at how the Lee County Port Authority operates Southwest Florida International Airport and Page Field. The morning begins sharply at 9:30 AM and ends at noon. We can accommodate 30 Pelican Landing residents (residents only) on a first-come basis. Reservation forms are available in the travel slot at the Pelican Landing Community Center. Details for an optional lunch is following (at a Gulf Coast Town Center Restaurant – order off menu, pay onsite) will be forthcoming to those who reserve. The Deadline to reserve is January 13, 2015. Fill out the reservation form today!
Pelican Landing Trump for the Cure
Save the date – Friday, January 30th. Second annual bridge tournament benefitting your own Pink Pelicans Race for the Cure Susan G. Komen team. Delightful day of bridge with lunch at the PLCA. Registration info available in early January, so mark your calendars now!
Pelican Landing Butterfly Garden
The Butterfly Garden at Pelican Landing hosts weekly Garden Gatherings at 8:30 – 10:30 AM every Wednesday. Everyone is welcome to attend – visit the Butterfly Garden Website today!
